1. Cause and Effect Card Game - link : http://www.education.com/activity/article/Cause_Effect_Card_middle/
This game is a great idea that can be used with ANY content. I will use this game with the topic of slavery and the Underground Railroad. The students will be broken up into partners, and each partner must come up with 20 cause and effects that are related to what we have learned about slavery and the Underground Railroad. If the game flows well with partners, we can try making groups of four to make the game more challenging!

2. Cause and Effect Graphic Organizer - link: http://www.educationoasis.com/curriculum/GO/GO_pdf/causeeffect_star.pdf
The students will use this graphic organizer to break down the effects of the development of the Underground Railroad. So, the "cause" in the middle star will be: "The Underground railroad was developed..." I will give this cause to the students but they are expected to write down six effects of the development of the Underground Railroad. This graphic organizer can be used during a lesson on the Underground Railroad or after.

3.Cause and Effect Group Activity - link: http://www.proteacher.org/c/456_Cause_and_Effect.html
This link inludes many great cause and effect activities, but I chose just one that I really liked. First, you begin with an effect, then choose one student to give the cause. This cause now becomes the new effect and another student is chosen to give the cause of that effect. So, the cause of every sentence becomes the new effect. This also teaches that some effects can also be causes.
For this activity, I would bring the entire class to the rug and have them sit in a circle. I will start out by saying the first effect: "the Union won the Civil War". Then, the student to my right will give the cause of this effect. We will continue around the circle until each student has gone. This activity will be a great observational assessment of students' knowledge of the Civil War.
